Yesterday Udaya came round to tell me that a big parcel had arrived for us at his house. I got on the back of his motorbike and we drove round to fetch it. As promised, the parcel did not weigh much but came in a very big box. He told me to grab it and jump on his back so he could drive me back home.
I did and so, for four hundred metres up and steep hill, down and up again, I rode on the back of a bike with an absurdly large parcel balanced on one knee. Tomorrow, I thought, I will ask if we can drive up and down the National Highway with me carrying a 50kg bag of rice and a boxed pressure cooker, the way I see other people doing.
This morning I open the package to discover the round wicker table that Irma had ordered. I know where it should go and I put it there. It fits perfectly.
I go to dismantle the box but too late: I have the front door open and the cats have rushed in and turned it into an adventure playground. In this photograph you cannot see that the other cat has jumped inside the box but it has. They will play in and out for an hour or so.
In the end I will decide to leave the box there for a few days. That way I have a good chance of knowing where they have gone if I lose sight of them.
